Cleaning House and Answering Questions

May 7, 2007 · 11 Comments

I wanted to give something to my friend K today.  She’s had a really tough week.  One of her good friends died over in I.raq, and life has just thrown some other crap into the mix for fun.  So, what can you give to a friend to cheer her up?  I thought about it, and came up with one idea.

I walked next door, and cleaned her entire house…top to bottom.  My gift wasn’t a clean house for her to come home to, but rather time with her daughter tomorrow.  It’s her only day off, and instead of spending it mopping, vaccuuming, and dusting, she can play with her little girl.  There’s nothing more important to K than that.

When I told my mom what I was up to today, she wanted to contribute something as well.  She called a short while later, and said she had made chocolate chip cookies.  I called K and told her what I had done, and you would have thought I had called and told her I was giving her a million dollars.  She was really excited, and I was truly glad that I made her day.  I’m not putting this up here to impress those reading, but really to remind people that the best gifts don’t cost a lot of money.  It took me some time and cost me a bit of energy.  However, both are worth the investment into our friendship.

Would I just go over and clean any friend’s home?  No.  Why hers?  I had no issues cleaning her home, because I knew she would appreciate it.  In fact, she laughed and said, “So, one day when you are all kinds of pregnant and totally upset with the state of your home, I can come over and return the favor!”  I can never move, because I don’t ever want a different neighbor!

Now, to answer the questions from the “I Am” post….

Mary Ellen’s Questions:

Cat person or dog person and why?

I grew up with cats, because my mom is a cat person.  I loved my cat beyond words, and it was a very bad day when I came home (at 22) and found my cat no longer living on my living room floor. I was in hysterics when I called my mom.  It was TERRIBLE.  However, I really love dogs.  I enjoy interacting with them, and let’s face it, who doesn’t love the way they greet you when you come home?!

What is your favorite TV show?

General Hospital.  I know, but I can’t lie!  I’ve been watching it since I was ten.  It’s not that I can’t miss a day (or even several weeks), but overall I enjoy the show.  However, my favorite prime time show is Grey’s Anatomy.  Favorite reality show would be Dancing With the Stars.  Ok, so it’s the only reality show I watch.

How did you and your hubby meet?

I wrote a post about how I met my hubbie back in February, and it can be found here.
