Are we there yet?

Oh no snow!

March 7, 2008 · 9 Comments

I always laugh a bit when it comes to weather here in Alabama.  I grew up in upstate New York, where snow is expected.  I would jump off the roof as a child into it. There were days when we couldn’t go out and play because the snow was over our heads.  Snow was just something that was.  I realize this is not the case here, and I am so glad!

So, we’re expecting snow here.  The temps will drop below freezing, and that prompts a frost warning.  The last time there was more than 0.3 inches in Hutsville was back in 1993.  They are calling for 1.5 to 3 inches.  Can you just imagine how this place is freaking out?  I know that we will be here in the house ALL DAY tomorrow, because they will ask you not to drive.  Ha!  As if I want to drive in snow here!  The roads react different than the ones in the north.  They are made of a different material.  Let us also not forget that people aren’t used to driving in it in this area.  So, um, no.  I’ll stay put right here thanks.

No worries though.  Monday we get back into the mid fifties and seventies by Thursday.  Whew!  I’m ready for spring.  So, now let the itty bitty bit of white stuff fall.  I want to take Lucky outside to play in it!  This will be his only shot at snow until we get to go and visit our eskimo family up there in NY.

We are expecting a foot of it over tonight and tomorrow. Add that the the couple of feet we already have, and it is a heck of a lot of snow!

Reality, that used to be my reality! If you ever want to defrost, c’mon down!

Ah, yes, as a former Michigander I also marvel at the response to snow from southerners and those on the west coast. (It’s going to be 70 and sunny today…oops, I probably shouldn’t have said that, but just know that I’ll be enjoying it for all those under a blanket of snow).

Can’t wait to see picture of Lucky in the snow! I hope he loves it.

There is so much snow here that my car looks like a lump on the road, and you can’t see the patio furniture in the backyard. I LOVE snow, and can’t imagine living without the 4 seasons, but honestly- enough is enough already!

Enjoy your 70s at the end of the week.

So did y’all actually get any? We got just enough that the dog left footprints on the porch, and it was maybe an inch thick on the leaves in the shade. Everything else just melted away by lunchtime though :(

Ah yes the blizzard of 08…that was supposed to drop snow on Pittsburgh…well it missed…hit Ohio instead.

Hope you guys are warming up and not flooding out! Do share photos of the little guy in the white stuff…I bet his reaction was hysterical!

Yes, we’ve had a record-breaking winter here in Milwaukee–over 80 inches and still counting. It makes me giggle to think of a snow advisory for a couple inches of snow. But yes, it can be a nightmare when people don’t know how to drive in the snow.
